Field Test

Amazing what a country can accomplish when its healthcare system is actually designed to keep people healthy, not squeeze money out of them when they're sick.

Click

South Korea's "spycam porn" problem hasn't gotten a lot of coverage in the West, but it is truly nauseating, and widespread enough over there that tens of thousands of women are turning out to protest. Too many people treat it as just a "genre" of pornography, rather than the criminal sexual exploitation that it is.

Hurdle Cleared

Well, Trump, you did it. You got through the North Korea summit without starting a nuclear apocalypse. Those were astronomically low expectations to meet, but meet them you did. I guess I can shift from "frantically packing bugout bag" to "packing bugout bag at a more relaxed pace, with occasional coffee breaks."

Short Fuse

Another one bites the dust. Trump's advisers may be scumbags, but at least a few are scumbags who don't want the world to end in nuclear war, and purging them just as we approach negotiations with North Korea is a troubling development.

SHTF

Before you duck and cover, maybe bypass the media hysteria and learn from the country that's been dealing with this for decades. Their attitude tends to be a lot...healthier.

Black and Blue House

Park Geun-hye is (finally) impeached, and the Korean elite learn the power of an angry public.

Detonation

Don't feel bad for Samsung (삼성). It's about time Korea's corporate tyrants faced some actual consequences for their actions.

Extra Weight

I want to be wrong about this, I really do. I hope that this deal can be the beginning of a new era in which Japan finally comes to terms with the dark side of its past. But knowing that Chinese expansion is the big East Asian headline these days, and that neither Abe nor Park actually gives a shit about the comfort women, it's hard not to be cynical.

PS. Yes, I know her hands are in the wrong place; the statue was half-covered in blankets when I saw it and I forgot to check a photo before drawing. Sorry.
